The Tree

The hill was small, and the brown tree was big. Its branches were broad, and it had green and yellow leaves. The brown tree had a thick trunk. The brown tree had lighter brown roots. They were firm, and some could be seen above ground. Sitting on these roots was a man. The man was old and was sobbing. The man had weak hands, and in those hands, he held flowers. The man looked up at the leaves, but they didn’t rattle. The man listened for the wind, but it didn’t moan. The man placed the flowers next to the picture of his wife under the tree. The tree did nothing, and the man went home.
